When it comes to change, there is always this daunting feeling, but believe me there are certain things you can change with very little effort that make a huge impact. Here are our 8 tweaks.
Small Tweaks – Big Differences!
When life is not going to plan we automatically feel that we need to make a drastic change in our life, believing it will put us on our right path. Small changes in your life are the key to getting the engine pumping again for that transformation you seek. We can call these changes, “tweaks” – small tweaks in your daily routines that take just a few minutes but will offer huge returns in the overall quality of your life. Here are some tweaks you can start today to incorporate in your life which will make you see results almost immediately.
1. Weight! Almost everyone at the beginning of the year, we want to get back into the gym or start a new diet
Why not start small by giving up those chocolate bars and fizzy drinks.
2. Stay Focused
Writing down your goals is very important, but it is necessary to regularly check that you are continuing to work towards them. Start by feeling more optimistic about the future. You know where you are going and what you have to do to achieve your dream.
3. In the morning or evening when you brush your teeth, pause for a moment and smile at yourself
There is a great quote I love to use by Aristotle that goes, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” So if you are what you repeatedly do, then why not repeatedly affirm something positive to yourself? Let’s stop being so hard on ourselves.
4. Go outside
Being outside for even small short walks has been known to help people solve problems, come up with new ideas, and have epiphanies that seem to have come out of nowhere. But they don’t come out of nowhere. Being outdoors and walking lets you access those brilliant solutions. A study by Stanford researches found that the act of walking actually increases creative output by up to 60 percent((Give Your Ideas Some Legs: The Positive Effect of Walking on Creative Thinking. Marily Oppezzo and Daniel L. Schwartz, Stanford University, 2014)).
There is nothing better than just being grateful especially when you start getting down, pause for a moment by thinking of three things you’re grateful for. It’s not just hearsay. Harvard confirms that gratitude can actually make you happier. Why not give it a try?
6. Do the most important thing you have to do FIRST
Before actually digging into your workday, figure out the single most important thing you need to do today. Then get it done. You’re likely to do a much better job of it, and feel less stressed for the rest of the day, if you tackle the most significant task first.
7. Compliment someone
Just being kind to people without expecting anything back is just an amazing feeling on its own. In fact, your body responds with “happy chemicals” like oxytocin and serotonin when you give a genuine compliment to someone.
8. Reboot your Relationship
If your relationship is making you unhappy, deciding to do something about your situation is probably the most difficult change anyone can make in their life. It is hard but communication is key. Talking to your partner and/or getting professional help before it is too late can do wonders.
All too often we persist in relationships that everyone else can see are unhealthy because we fear the unknown.
We feel that we don’t deserve anything better and must pay the price for a decision made perhaps many years earlier.
Facing up to unhappiness need not mean splitting up. Relationships can be repaired and restored. Non judgmental communication is very important. Giving each other that safe space to express our feelings. Then importantly listening to each other is a small tweak with a massive impact.
